SFXs and Music

To be fair I like how quite the whole site is, only ever making sounds when you get messaged or make an action in the fight window.

However I really do not like how the volume jumps around at random and almost blow out my speakers when I crit something. You also get very tired of the "dot-dot-dot" going off all of the time. - The solution? More sound effects, better mix-mastering.

I also propose that while you're waiting in Ranked queue, have some underlying musical loop going on while you browse other windows to keep you informed that you are still searching for a match (but also have a button to turn it off if a user doesn't prefer it.)

As a music producer myself, I've spent the last 2 hours making a small vibe that I hope fits the aesthetic, I wouldn't mind handling some SFX jobs either.

Hi there, wow, thanks! That's incredible haha.

The volume jumping is actually not necessarily a mastering issue, it's just a bug that causes multiple messages to spawn all at once, and there's no guard preventing multiple sounds from playing at the same time. So you get like 5-10 notification sounds overlayed, and by default browsers just "add" them together, increasing the volume.

I see 2 things that should improve this: aggregating multiple system messages to 1, and managing sounds better. Not allowing multiple sounds to play at the same time and either dropping or queuing them to play sequentially.

On the topic of music - it's great idea. There's one downside to this - typically music on websites is considered poor taste, and many people prefer not to have any music. However it could be made optional. I also had some ideas about synced music playback during fights, so all participants can hear same tracks and at the same time.

However there's always a case of handling multiple tabs. Some people can run multiple fights in different tabs, and then it gets messy. But I guess it could be managed too, maybe per-chat toggles.

The notification sounds you hear right now on the website are actually produced by me :D I also sometimes write music as a hobby. Mostly it was FL Studio until recently - I switched over to Linux, and running FL is tricky, so I'm migrating to Bitwig. And it's a bit tough haha.

So I would love your help with SFX and maybe some music tracks, if you're interested, that would be of great help for the project.

The theme you wrote has a great vibe, and reminds me of Saints Row haha. For match finding music I'd soften it up a bit maybe, the highs and hihats are a bit sharp on the ears for something that's supposed to be in the background on the loop.

You can contact me over on discord for further discussion and brainstorming of more sfx ideas, link to discord community is available in the menu here. I think during fights it could be fun to have different sounds for different effects, maybe kicks, punches, crowd noise, bell ringing, etc. Maybe some gibberish fake announcer for when announcer speaks. Although now that I think of it, it could even be possible to actually use text to speech to generate announcer voice, but it's will put more load on hardware and increase latency probably... or maybe not... hmm, I'll think about it haha.

Yeah I did think it was the case you had some DAW-knowledge, since the "doots" you are currently using, have a pleasant sound and space to them that I haven't seen anywhere else, so I assumed it was custom-made for the project as well.

But so it seems you and I are both music producers. I like to experiment every now and then, but I'm mainly rooted in Progressive House, Synth Pop, Future Bass and Drum'n'Bass. - Here's my one and only EP I have yet released: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfQ0q9ro_rY

Gave it a listen, and thank you for sharing, those are great ^^ I might add it to my playlist :D

Glad you enjoyed my doots :P

I did release an update that improves sound handling on the website. It should not blow out your speakers anymore. I've also added capability to run different sounds for different events, although I've added only a few new sounds for KO, Fatality.

I've also added a music loop to the matchmaking, with ability to disable it from Profile settings. However, full disclosure, it's just an AI generated placeholder, as well KO and Fatality sounds. As soon as you get a chance to polish your track and call it finished I'll gladly replace it. Same goes for notification sounds.
